Hello! I'm Alyssa, an avid cross stitcher and wannabe artist.
In this blog you'll mainly see cross stitch and maybe some art photos, but don't expect too much of that. I'm also a sometimes-writer and photographer, and I sometimes will be posting screenshots of games (probably just The Sims 4 for now, if at all).
But yes, for the most part cross stitch.
I didn't begin cross stitching until Summer of 2016, so just over a year of stitching. I'm bad at completing projects but hopefully this blog will help me keep track of everything I've got working and inspire me to keep working until finished! :)
I have a relatively... large stash of patterns that I've collected over the last year! I'll get around to posting photos of everything I own in the next post.
Like I said previously, I'm pretty bad at finishing projects. The first project, a Rick and Morty pattern that I purchased from
CatConfetti on Etsy... will never be completed. I need to frog 5 or so stitches and to be honest, I don't like working on this pattern enough to get around to it.
The second pattern, the deer head, is also from an Etsy shop called
AnnaXStitch. This was going to be for my boyfriend last Christmas. I see it all the time sitting in my stash and I just pass right over it. I'm sure I'll never finish this too.
Third,
also another pattern from Etsy,
ThisSideOfWhimsy, is full of confetti, and part of 4 patterns. Its
ginormous! I began working on it on (I believe) 25 count evenweave, working 1 over 1. I decided to start this like less than a month after I taught myself to stitch and I was just in
way over my head and I just ended up setting it to the side and forgetting about it.
This was also the second time I'd started this patter! I originally going to work on this on 18 count Aida but that was going to turn out even larger than on the evenweave. Again... in way over my head. I'll try the pattern again at another time, because they are all extremely beautiful!
I loooove organizing my floss! Just seeing all the beautiful colors organized by number just makes me so happy! I've finally purchased a few patterns from my Local Stitching Shop that require fancy overdyed floss. So excited to work with fancy floss for the first time! Hopefully I'll start something before the end of the month.
So, after having dyed a few pieces of linen and Aida with RitDye I decided to dabble in to tea and coffee dying some linen. I followed
this YouTube video by the wonderful Priscilla and Chelsea, the Real Housewives of Cross Stitch and when I was baking the fabric in the oven I ended up either burning or, because I didn't put parchment paper underneath it, rust ended getting onto the fabric.
I attempted to throw some tea leafs scattered onto the fabric from that wasn't working too well. I tried spritzing it with water frequently too, but alas. Not much popped up.
It didn't end up very pretty, so I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up another piece of 28 count linen. That one ended up a lot better, but I didn't bake it.
I will be using the fabric for something in the future, but the newest fabric I dyed will be used for a few winter and Christmas patterns pretty soon! Also super excited for those! :)
This is the main pattern I'm currently working on. It's not the most up-to-date picture, but I just love seeing patterns start to come together. It looked a little lackluster before I got the dark brown outline started, and after working on that I felt extremely excited to continue working on this.
This is for a friend for Christmas, so I've got just a little over a month to get this finished and framed! She is obsessed with cats, so I think this will fit perfectly into her apartment.
The pattern is from an Etsy shop that I listed above as well,
AnnaXStitch. I've got a bit more than half of this to get done by Christmas!
I've also got another pattern that I'm working on for Christmas for my friends and their baby. We made it to Disney World back in September with them, and I figured I would make a Magic Kingdom cross stitch to help commemorate that. I have quite a bit left to go on that as well!
Lastly, here is a little tiny example of some of the art you might be seeing here. Nothing too exciting. I'm a journaler as well, and I like to decorate my pages with stuff before I write on them. Its a good way to express myself in other ways.
Well, I think that is it for today!
This coming week we have Thanksgiving. I'm not doing much, I've got a full shift at work that day so I will most likely be working for the whole 10 hours that day. My mother will be cooking for herself, my father, and I, and my sister and brother-in-law may be coming over Thursday as well, but nothing big or exciting.
Just super not excited for peak season to be starting this week at work. 55 to 60 hour weeks start this week, so... hopefully I'll get everything done that I want to get done!
Have a great day!
